Storyteller Seasonal Series: Summer

Adam, our Storyteller-in-residence at Scene & Heard, has written the fourth instalment of his seasonal diary series. This blog captures the events from this summer, with Adam having now documented a full year of his hard work and achievements as a community storyteller with the Melting Metropolis project.

JUNE

Climate Action Day! So much happened on this day! I had fun doing a workshop on heat with my collaborator-in-arts, Samuel Li. We invited a group of community residents and visitors in to the Scene & Heard building to make some art about their relationship to the sun. Then we finished up with a traditional Chinese folk story about 'Hou Yi' and how the sun came to be.

JULY

The Somers Town festival arrived and we had a stall on Chalton street, where people could try on hats, grab a badge, and find out more about Melting Metropolis. We also had our first Scene & Heard Creative Arts Week with the 7 - 9s, where we created a play in a week called: Sunshine Zoo. We found that talking about zoo animals in their enclosures during a hot summer was a great way to continue the conversation around heat.

AUGUST

Week two of Scene & Heard's Creative Arts Week occurred at the start of August, with the show title 'So, my mum is a Zookeeper' (as the older kids needed their own title!). That ended my final project with Scene & Heard, and was quite the ride!

Then we had the Saatchi gallery takeover! With the soundtrack to 'Stand in the Sun' playing around us, and Kara & Bryony engaged guests at one end of the room, I had an arts corner, a la Creative Arts Week, where you could colour in the letters 'CARNIVAL DREAMS' or get on a picnic blanket and make your own sun-related images. Adults, and a few kids, of all ages came along and got creative.
