Summer in Paris

An Illustrated Journey through History and Heat

What was it like to experience summer in the city at different moments in time? How did people cope with the extreme heat? What can be done to improve our lives in the summer?

A blend of fiction and archival research, Summer in Paris examines the impacts of heat on urban life through time. Gustave thanked the trees providing shade in 1886, Jules wrote about the scorching 1911 heatwave, Christine debated the 1968 summer body with her friends, and Samira visited her elderly neighbour in 2003. Today, academic researchers and creative practitioners are looking at the past and the present to create safer and more equal experiences of urban heat.
